Montreal’s green space worth more than $4B: study

MONTREAL – Montreal’s forests, rivers, swamps and other natural areas contribute at least $4.3 billion in goods and services to the economy every year, a new study says.

“We wanted to show that protecting nature isn’t an expense, it’s an investment,” said Karel Mayrand, executive director of the David Suzuki Foundation’s Quebec office. “Our economy doesn’t take into account the benefit of ecological services or the costs of the destruction of natural spaces.”
