Geoff Kelley – Time for a Change

Posted on Updated on

The Liberals (QLP) have always taken the West Island for granted and that’s the way it’s likely to stay until people wake up and realize it’s time for a change. How stupid does Kelley think the average West Island voter is? The Quebec government doesn’t have the money to purchase land it already owns????

Oh my god! Which part did you miss about the land already belongs to the QC government?

Re: “Land sale controversy has election undertones”

Dear Editor,

Veteran MNA Geoffrey Kelley is being a good deal less than forthright concerning the land in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue that has been put up for sale by Investissement Québec. (West Island Gazette, August 15, “Land sale controversy has election undertones”) He implies that the province would need funds to conserve these 35 acres. This is simply not so. This land is already owned by Quebec. Not one penny is needed to transfer it to the Montreal Agglomeration or Environment Quebec as a permanent conservation area.

The lands in question are part of the Anse-à-l’Orme Ecoforest Corridor deemed to be the most ecologically rich and biologically diverse natural patrimony on the Island of Montreal. It would be unthinkable to see it destroyed for housing. Mr. Kelley should stop hiding behind the false assertion that the Quebec Government is powerless to protect it. With the mere stroke of a pen they could see this area preserved.
