The eco-unfriendly stooges at Investissement Quebec are trying to sell more public green spaces to a lucky developer (gee, I wonder who that could be). They want to make sure another construction company can make even more money from what actually belongs to the people – public wetlands, forests, and fields destroyed forever so we can have more cars, traffic, pollution, and crime on the West Island.
IQ – a good candidate for the Charbonneau Commission? – only time will tell. Incompentence Quebec would be more appropriate. Interestingly, the company brokering the sale of the land, CBRE, is described as a Montreal real estate agency, yet on their website it states their headquarters is in the United States. Buy Canadian!

For Sale: A large tract of undeveloped land in Ste. Anne de Bellevue

A call to tender to purchase close to 35 acres of forested land in Ste. Anne de Bellevue was issued July 18. A large tract of publicly-owned, undeveloped land on the western end of Montreal Island is being sold off by the provincial government. A public call for tender was issued Wednesday for close to 35 acres or 140,000 square metres of land in a part of Ste. Anne de Bellevue that borders one of Montreal Island’s 10 most important ecoterritories, that of the Rivière l’Anse à l’Orme.
The land, owned by Investissement Québec, the provincial government’s economic development agency, is being sold by CBRE Ltée., a Montreal real estate agency. The vacant land parcel is directly north of the Hydro-Québec servitude in the area and,is bordered by Parc de la rivière à l’Orme on the east and a Ste. Anne de Bellevue residential development on the west. It is being offered for sale without a preset price on an “as is, where is” basis without any warranty by the vendor, states the CBRE listing. “All terms and conditions regarding this public call for tenders will be made available to prospective purchaser(s) starting July 18, 2012, upon receipt of a duly executed confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement,” the listing reads.
The deadline for submission of tenders on the listing is Aug. 22.
“We are dismayed,” said Martina Holt, a Senneville resident and a member of the Comité pour l’Anse à l’Orme, a citizens’ group that has been lobbying for the protection of the land parcel in question and others in the area.
In August 2011, Holt said conservationists were encouraged when a 31-hectare parcel of land in the ecoterritory was acquired by the provincial government’s Ministry of Sustainable Development, the Environment and Parks.
That optimism is eroded now that the land now up for public tender will likely be purchased by a developer, Holt said. She noted that another large tract of vacant land directly south of the Hydro-Québec servitude is already owned by Grilli, the real estate developer.
If the two parcels are eventually developed, the buffer zone between the residential development and the ecoterritory will be lost, threatening white-tailed deers, migratory birds and other plant and animal species, said David Fletcher of Montreal’s Green Coalition.
The zoning of both the land parcel currently for sale and the one already owned by Grilli are presently frozen as Ste. Anne de Bellevue develops its master urban plan.
